During the Civil War, this house was inhabited by a young lady and her lover. As the Union Army was fast approaching, the two tried to escape through a tunnel that led to the Cape Fear River. The tunnel, however, was blown up. It is said that the house is now haunted by the couple. It is reported that the Lady in Black appears on the stair case of the three story house on many occasions.
