Kansas, named from the Kansa Tribe of Native Americans, was a state that comes out of the history books as the Wild West. Just preceding the Civil War, Kansas Territory was torn in two. Each side wanted Kansas to pick a side. Select being either a Northern Free State in the Union, which did not allow slavery, or Southern State for slavery. Flooding the state with southerners, muskets in hand, they stuffed the ballot boxes. You can review legends as Wild Bill Hickok, a folk-hero, known as a skilled gunfighter and lawman, battled all the most evil, rotten, sinister of men. Tales of bloody battles and duels, Wild Bill was a marksman, professional poker player, and scout during the Civil War for the Union. He was killed while playing poker in South Dakota.
